New Mom 101

Let's discuss the things they don't tell you in books about being a first time mom. Experienced moms please weigh in. I'll do my best to remember how awkward and terrifying those first weeks are.

THINGS NOBODY TELLS YOU

1) You will become a poop expert!

2) Your baby WILL have a blowout, most likely in public, so bring extra clothes or a blanket. You can torture your child with the story when they are a teenager.

I will add more as I remember them. Please feel free to add your own.

Their head will not pop off and their neck won't break when you put a shirt over their tiny newborn heads.

Going to the extreme to keep your house as silent as possible does nothing but create a monster down the road.

Don't panic if your baby wakes up while you are in the shower. It's OK to rinse off and get dry before you run to them. They won't remember and you won't damage their psyche.

I okay to not pick them up right away when they start crying, otherwise every little cry they make, they will think ur gonna come running to pick them up

It's a good idea to keep an extra shirt for yourself in their diaper bag, cause when they have a blowout or throw up, it isn't always just on them or happen at the most convenient time.

If they're sleeping and you decide to make yourself something delicious to eat, they'll 9 times out of 10 wake up the instant said delicious food is complete and ready to eat:)

Swaddle them up really tight to sleep and if it's cold put a snug fitting cap on their head as they
lose a lot of heat through their baldy head! Some people frown on caps as a SIDS risk but it must be snug fitting and breathable cotton. I swear by it - caps and Kiddopotamus wraps got both my winter born babies to sleep thru the night from weeks old!

1. Everyone elses world doesn't revolve around your little one. ( even though you think it should)
2. Don't be surprised if after the baby you find yourself going a day or two without a shower or brushing your teeth.
3. After you give birth, your belly will resemble a bowl of jelly. Looks and feels.
4. At some point you will feel totally lost, helpless and a horrible mother. We all have and will probably feel it again.
5. You will stare at your baby. Often and for long periods of time.

Clean your hands and put lanolin on your nipples after every feed. Use hydrogel pads kept in the fridge if your nipples are sore. Only ever touch your boobs with very clean hands as I got an infected crack that combined with mastitis gave me a breast absess with my first bub. Invest in a bottle of hand santising gel for every room, didn't have any probs with my 2nd.

Lol! I know I know.... Well..... When my first son was born I made my mom dress him at the hospital because I knew his head was going to pop right off. I went out as soon as possible and bought new clothes for him that didn't have to go over his head! He's 13 now. I always tell him he's my "practice kid". Man I love that kid!!!

If you have a boy remember to POINT THE PENIS DOWNWARD when putting on the new diaper otherwise they will pee up and out the top of it.

The jelly belly after giving birth is soooooooo strange.

no one really tells you about the guilt that comes along with being a mother.
you will feel guilty about everything... seriously everything, and thats okay.
it just means we want the best for our children. but sometimes the reality of only being human can hurt.
you will never be the perfect parent... and that is okay.

After the baby comes, so does the worry. You will worry all the time. About everything.
