Plastibell? When does it fall of!?

It's been a little over a week since my son had his plastibell circumcision done. The doc said it will fall off within 8 days. Well here it is, day 10 and it still hasn't fallen off. Should I be worried!? Is it bad if it hasn't come off yet? How long did it take for any of your babies ring to fall off? Was there any complications because it took longer? I'm currently waitng for doc to call, but I wanna know what u ladies went throug with the plastibell.

Its a plastic ring that helps the cut heal.. its newerish. makes things stay cleaner as far as a bandage goes. i would suggest googling it so you can see a picture of it.

They insert the plastic ring between the penis and the foreskin before they cut the foreskin. It allows the cut to heal without touching the penis, and it slowly falls off over the course of a few days. Theres no bandages or anything, and they recommend neosporan or a lubricant to be coated on the cut to keep it to healing against a diaper so that way every time you have a diaper change your not tearing a new scab away...

my sisters sons didnt fall off...the dr did it wrong and used the wrong stitch to hold it on...he nearly lost his penis due to that...we had to rush him to the ER bcuz it began to swell and cut of circulation....if not off soon call his Ped.

Good lord, I would die if something happend to his little penis, it kind of made me regret doing it but it seems to be fine now and half of it it's starting to lift up so hopefully by tomorrow it will be gone! I'm debating to ever do it again if I end up ever having another boy though...but at the same time I don't want one kid to be circumcised and not the other...I just hope it heals nicely and nothing goes wrong!

after reading about it I think I'm going to opt out. I'd rather pull the foreskin back on my little Guy and keep it clean myself. The picture on wikepedia made me felt uncomfortable about allowing it to be on him. I'm fearful of infection and anything foreign to my experience being on my baby. But don't freak out. At least its falling off and if it doesn't by tomorrow do what you Dr said and give him a warm bath. Good luck hunnie.

Aww Ladies I would talk to your pediatritian first...
I found it to be a very very very simple procedure and my son didnt even wince... he was smiling the whole time! Not to mention after we got home he never once showed any discomfort or any cranky-ness. I would do the plastibell time and time again. I wish i could see the pictures you saw... because its just a simple little plastic ring. Very sanitary.

I worked in a pediatric office where we did circs in the office, we did not use that method and this was just last year, talk to your doctor before you make the choice not to. We used a Gomco clamp I believe.

He didn't cry at all when we did it, there was no blood he was actually asleep while they did it and only fussed when he was waken, but as for pain he let's me clean it and look at it and doesn't make a peep, but I also googled photos and seems to me google only puts the bad ones on their bc my sons penis looks normal other than a little swelling and the ring coming off, still hasn't falen off today but it is slowing working its way off, more of the ring is now exposed, so I think we are in the clear, if anything he has an apt coming up(:

Be careful about googling circumcision procedures. Usually only really old videos are posted before numbing became standard practice and usually the people posting them search out worse case scenarios. There are a few different ways a boy can be circumcised, but they are all safe and with modern protocol there should only be minimal to no pain.

Anyone wanting more info, let me know and I will send you and invite to the circumcision support group.

It still hasn't fallen off): it's almost been 2 weeks. It doesn't look infected at all and it's half way off but now I'm starting to worry again. Well if anything he has a dr apt Thursday thank god!

Its not unusual for it to take up to 14 days. But just don't try to pull it off, and if you are worried about it, its ok to take your son into his doctor and get it checked.
