Tips to increase amniotic fluid??

Went to the doctor yesterday and she is concerned about my low amniotic fluid. I've been drinking so much water I'm getting water logged! And now my doctor has limited my activities with "bed rest".

I have 3 weeks to go, anyone have tips to help increase my low fluid?

Thank you!!

I ate ice crushed cause water makes me sick. Also I had gotten sick so I drank Gatorade and my dr said that's a no no that's what made my fluid low cause it has so much salt. So watch your salt to good luck.

room temp water absorbs better into your body...I leave my water bottles in the cubbord and drink them from there.

I have had low amniotic fluid since 24 weeks , I started just drinking an insane amount of water...it was not increasing. so I researched how to increase it and there is a Knox gelatin trick. I have been doing it since I read about it and let me tell u its been a life saver...my fluid has gone from 5 to now as of today a 13 I'm 33 weeks now. I swear by this trick and have suggested it to other women on here and they have good results too after trying it. you still drink your water just add this little trick to your routine :)

you can find it in your groc store jello isle. it comes in lil boxes w 4 envelopes, about 2 bucks for the box, every morning I fill a glass w my juice and add 3 envelopes and stir till disolved. u can roughly say its a cup of juice for each envelope. drink it all at once .....in the evening I do the same thing about 2 hours after dinner but I only mix 2 envelopes..and repet daily. let me tell u this has been a wonderful remedy. I told my doc what I was doing and at first she laughed at me, but the other day she was so surprised w the improvement she is now a believer....give it a try. and hang in there I'm in bedrest too and it stinks but its almost over good luck let me know if u have any other questions cause I have learned a lot about this issue :)

This might be silly, but other than an ultrasound how can you know if your fluid levels have dropped? My office only does an ultrasound between 18-20wks and then not again unless you have a real concern. I had one done just last week because my belly is big but the fluid level was a 6.8 and baby was 3lb9oz at 30w3d. Doctor said fluids looked fine. But it seemed low to me. Just was wondering if you were having off symptoms or something that caused the need to check fluid levels.

ummmm how can he be ok w 6. anything. my doc was concerned when I was at a 7.2....I was put on immediate bed rest. they should be doing bio physical profiles weekly and monitoring it by ultrasound weekly. after my 19 wk appt they said everything looks good...but the head is a lil small..my doc said we will check again at 30 weeks I said I really don't feel comfortable about that. so I went at 24 weeks and my fluid went from normal to a 6.9 no question I was put on bedrest ....he was concerned, I'm 33 weeks still on bedrest low fluid is no joke, I def would get a second opionion because anyone will tell u it can be very dangerous to have fluid at our levels. your doc is your doc but docs make mistakes.
also I noticed the day b4 my 24 week appt my lol was not active at all. when u have low fluid movement can decrease or maybe feel like its increased because there is not much fluid protecting the baby. also the fluid helps lung development my doc said if there Is not enough fluid lungs can't develop. get a second opionion asap. your doc seems off his rocker demand a redferral for a second opionion and research it online 6. anything is not normal 10 or above is. let me know if u have anymore questions ? gl

Ok thanks. My doctor is a sweetheart, and she is highly sought after in my town. But ya never kno, maybe she misread my ultrasound print out or something. I have only gained 15lbs at 31wks. My lil guy is extremely strong and active with strong HB. Anytime he moves around you can see big bulges and what not on the outside, there have been a few times I can distinctly see his heel, etc. So maybe if my fluid is lower that would explain why his movements are soooo noticeable? I have an appointment again in 2 weeks, I will bring it up again then.

Thank you all for such great advice! I'll definitely check the jell trick. I only have 3 weeks so I'm not sure it'll do much before I'm done, but I'm up or anything to help. Drinking a gallon of water a day is tiring! ;)

Also I agree that any doctor that is ok with fluid levels under 10 is questionable. My levels are right at 10 and my doctor put me on bed rest! She said if it gets lower she would hospitalize me. I have 2 young kids (5yrs & 3yrs) and a traveling husband...I don't have time for bed rest!

yeah see I'm not nuts lol, I would be freaking out if my doc said to me I will check u again in 2 weeks. low fluid is serious, I never even knew it exsisted as a possible issue. I have read too many horror stories. I hate bed rest but my weekly ultrasound is reassuring I'm happy they monitor this. I def would go get a 2nd opionion that just seems wrong to just let her go home like that w no restriction

Just had to give an update. After drinking 2 gallons of water a day for 1 week & resting my fluid levels didn't get any better! They actually declined a little so now I'm at 8cm of fluid.

My dr said its likely my placenta isn't doing its job to the level they would like it to. Now I have to go back on Thursday for them to check again.

Looks like this little girl will be arriving earlier than expected!

A lot of watermelon juice. This worked for me wonderfully. Just put watermelon pieces in the blender, add a cut of water and blend. Then use a drainer to get the flesh out.

Hi there Ladies, I know that this is a 2 year old blog but I hope someone could give me some advice, I really need it. I had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago and it turned out that my amniotic fluid levels are low but that I know today when I had my appointment with my doctor, she suspects I'm leaking. she didn't tell me to rest in bed or anything but even if she did I have a 2 year old girl who's having her terrible two's so go figure... my husband is out of the country and I have to go see him, it's been 4 months now since we got together... so practically I have 2 weeks to boost my amniotic fluid or he's not letting fly over to see him.... so plz ladies... i need help, as for the knox gelatin it worked because of it's jellyness of because it's made out of bone marrow because I don't eat red meat so would fish gelatin or vegi gelatin do the trick??? as for watermelons do they really work???? I really appreciate your replies.....

How did they notice your fluid was low, did they do this without an ultrasound. I've been worried mine is low .. but how do I find out if I'm not having another ultrasound done.

Hii Celine-harb, just to share with you my progress. I was diagnosed with low amniotic fluid at week 36, i awas drinking up to 6 liters of water but was still extremely thirsty, at 38 week I was diagnosed with IUGR, and delivered by CS at week 39 after a failed induction. However, in my second pregnancy I was constantly being monitored and low amniotic fluid was detected earlier and I uped the amount of water I was drinkiing but not helping and still thirty. What I did was to drink electrolyte water it helps me to drink less and keep the water, I drink now together 3 litres and i do not have to wake up in the nights do drink.
My AF is now in a good amount after one week of drinking it and not thirsty anymore. So my recipe for electrolyte water goes like this. 1 orange, 1 lemon and 1 lime, add to 1.5litres water plus one teaspoon sea salt and two teaspoons sugarĀ“. wish you success

Hi, I'm 20 weeks and was told my fluid is low. So I've drank 3 liters of water today. I was told only 1 pocket was seen and there is no fluid around the baby at all and in the 1 pocket fluid level was on 1.5cm. Effective this past weekend my water broke (PROM) but I have no cramping, bleeding abdominal pain, absolutely nothing, and in fact my baby's heart beat today was still 155 bpm. Reading about the Gelatin, I understand it's 1 package, but in how much water? Can I put it in a Liter or cup or pint? What are the instructions. The fruit salad, definitely doing. Will be getting watermelon. On another note I am suppose to go to the doc every week to measure and monitor baby since the PROM, and they will admit me into the hospital at 24 weeks which is 4 weeks from now. But the doc i saw today scheduled me to come back in 2 weeks. HUH!
