WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF CLOTH DIAPERS?
PREFOLDS are a type of cloth diaper made up of layers. They fold into thirds. You place on baby, then snap a cover over the prefold & onto baby. You may choose to use boingos, snappis or pins to hold the prefold onto baby more snug to keep poo in better.
FITTEDS are cloth diapers that have snaps or velcro that fasten around baby. These are great for newborns. They are not waterproof & will still need a separate cover to keep from leaking through and onto clothing.
HYBRID FITTEDS are fitted diapers that are sewn with a hidden layer of fleece between the outer cotton layer & inner velour layer. The fleece deflects moisture back into soaker, keeping the outer fabric dryer longer. These are not waterproof but last longer than other fitteds. When paired with wool, they make a great breathable option for nighttime.
All-In-Ones (AIO) are the most similar to disposables. They are the easiest & simply snap or velcro onto baby. The inner layer is an absorbant cloth or fleece & the outer layer is waterproof PUL. The downside to these dipes are that they take longer to dry & can be more expensive.
POCKET DIAPERS are similar to AIOs in that they snap or velcro around baby like a disposable. The difference is that there is a pocket in the lining where you stuff a microfiber, hemp, bamboo or organic cotton insert. After the diaper comes off, you pull out the insert which makes for better washing & faster drying.
So Thursday morning nothing was happening, had a little walk, got showered and changed and then my waters went!! :-) thought I had wet myself!! Very odd feeling!!
Doctor confirmed it, and said I was 3-4cm!! So progress was being made!!
Went down to delivery suite at 1.30. Started on the syntocin (?sp) drip at 3.30, contractions came thick and strong, was determined to use very little pain relief, so was breathing through them, very sore!! Drip makes the contractions horrible!! Was checked 3 hours later and only 4cm, was not looking very good, still contracting every 2.5 mins very strongly...got re-examined at 9, was 5cm, was not progressing the way I was Ment to, should have been a lot further than that now!! Got re-examined at 11, and was still only 5cms, and babies head had started to swell where he was pushing on my cervix, doctor came to review me, said had to wait an hour, by now I decided to use gas and air to try and take the edge of the contractions, helped a bit, made me dizzy though!! About 12.45, doctor examined me, still 5cms, baby was in awkward position, not progressing even with the amount of contractions I was having!!
So the decision for a c-section was made, by this point I knew it was best for baby and me...so I was prepped and given a spinal, which gave me horrible shakes...and at 1.18 on Friday morning Oliver James chapman arrived....weighing 9lbs!! Might explain why he wouldn't come out my pelvis!!
We have struggled with feeding as Oliver has a bad tongue tie, but it is being cut on Thursday so it should help him and me!!
Have had an awful recovery after c-section, had to spend an extra day in hospital so came out last Tuesday, spent a week in total in hospital, and then on Friday I got re-admitted due to an infection my wound, so was quite poorly! Came home yesterday and am determined to stay at home this time!! Got another 12 days of antibiotics...so hopefully should get rid of infection!!
We are home now and so glad!!
Sorry for long story...just be prepared for anything, I wanted a water birth but ended up with this!! But at the end of it I got my beautiful baby boy!! Am so in love with him!!
Hope my story hasn't scared you!!
Lots of love
Megan and Oliver 11days old!!
